HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate David Lee Steelman on the occasion of his retirement as the Government Liaison for Western Illinois University on May 31, 2012; and

WHEREAS, David Steelman was born on September 5, 1953, in White Hall; his parents are Glenn B. Steelman and Ella Dee Steelman; he has 4 siblings, Kathryn Jo Brown, Michael G. Steelman, Kevin W. Steelman, and Todd J. Steelman; he has a daughter, Rebecca R. Steelman; and

WHEREAS, David Steelman graduated from Bushnell Prairie City High School in 1971; he earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Western Illinois University in August of 1980; and

WHEREAS, David Steelman served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1973 to 1977; during his time in the Navy, he served as an Aviation Anti-Submarine Warfare Operator (AW2); and

WHEREAS, David Steelman began his tenure as the Government Liaison for Western Illinois University in December of 1995; as Government Liaison, he was responsible for representing Western Illinois University's interests in Springfield and ensuring that the University received the funding and support it deserved; and

WHEREAS, Prior to his service at Western Illinois University, David Steelman served as a policy and planning analyst for the Illinois General Assembly's Joint Committee on Administrative Rules from 1980 to 1983; from 1983 to 1988, he served as a senior research associate for the Illinois Commission on Intergovernmental Cooperation, where he prepared, analyzed, and tracked legislation and regulatory policies, and prepared research materials and testimony; and

WHEREAS, David Steelman and his loving wife, Christina Lyn Steelman, were married on November 27, 2003; and

WHEREAS, David Steelman serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate David Steelman on the occasion of his retirement, thank him for his service to the staff and students of Western Illinois University, and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to David Steelman as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
