HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Army National Guard, the Air National Guard, the Army Reserve, the Air Force Reserve, the Navy Reserve, the Marine Corps Reserve, and the Coast Guard Reserve constitute a vital and ever more important part of our nation's defense; and

WHEREAS, Members of the National Guard and Reserve are "Citizen Warriors" who lead dual lives as workers, managers, professionals, and students throughout our communities; as members of our nation's armed forces, they train and maintain their military skills so they can answer the call to serve in military security operations at home and abroad as well, as provide humanitarian aid at home; and

WHEREAS, On June 22, 1972, President Richard Nixon authorized the Secretary of Defense to create the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) and the Department of Defense established the Illinois Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve; and

WHEREAS, For 40 years, ESGR has promoted and facilitated a strong culture of mutually-beneficial relationships between employers and their military employees, thereby enabling members of the Guard and Reserve to respond quickly to state disaster emergencies and national military necessities, while knowing that they have a secure civilian career after their service; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we gratefully acknowledge the 40th anniversary of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and especially the Illinois Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, and thank the organization and its volunteer members for their outstanding service to our State's employers and their employee members of the National Guard and Reserve; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve and the Illinois Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
