HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to honor those who will be taking part in the first all Vietnam Veterans Honor Flight, the "Welcome Home Tour"; and

WHEREAS, The name "Welcome Home Tour" was selected due to the fact that many Vietnam Veterans never received a "welcome home" or "thank you" for their service to their country; and

WHEREAS, The trip will be to Washington, D.C. to see the Vietnam Memorial, other major monuments and memorials, and a wreath laying on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier; the trip will conclude on Veteran's Day; and

WHEREAS, The trip will include Honor Guards, Patriot Guards, and a flag ceremony to honor the Vietnam Veterans who gave their lives in service of the country; each veteran will receive a flag which has flown over the capital and they will have "mail call" on their return flight; and

WHEREAS, The veterans who will be taking part on the trip are Curtis Dale Beeding, James William Crawford, Brian Douglas Cummings, Herbert James Eutsler, Larry Eugene Fitchner, Richard Bryant Fuller, Dennis Michael Galitz, Keith Eugene Grim, Max A. Kauffman, Larry Ervin Knock, James Merlin Larson, Kenneth L. Meeker, Timothy Lee Mendenhall, Ronald David Miller, Jerry Dale Murphy, Danny Joe Peters, Ronald E. Scheef, James J. Schriver, Randall Louis Schriver, William Wesley Shutt, Rexford Lee Todd, William Eugene Wagner, Ernst Rolland Whiting Jr., Lawrence Eldon Winkel, and Michael A. Young; and

WHEREAS, Those that made this event possible are Bob Stone, Midway Airport, Emily McLaughlin, Operations Assistant, Pam Horton, and Dr. Barbara J. Schriver, D.N.; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor the Vietnam Veterans who will be a part of the first Honor Flight in the U.S., thank them for their service and give them the welcome they deserve; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the veterans of the first Honor Flight as an expression of our esteem and respect.
