| | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | | 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate St. Paul | | 4 | | Evangelical Lutheran Church and School on the celebration of | | 5 | | its 125th anniversary, which will be held from September 28-30, | | 6 | | 2012; and
| | 7 | | WHEREAS, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran was founded in 1887, | | 8 | | and conducted services at Immanuel Lutheran Church in South | | 9 | | Chicago's Turner Hall; in 1888, it moved to its current | | 10 | | location; in 1889, the Day School was started with 14 pupils; | | 11 | | in 1891, a resolution was passed for membership in the | | 12 | | Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Missouri, now the Lutheran | | 13 | | Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS); in 1979, the new church building | | 14 | | was dedicated; the original church building was demolished in | | 15 | | 2002; and
| | 16 | | WHEREAS, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran has numerous | | 17 | | councils, boards, and committees, filled with congregants | | 18 | | devoted to the betterment of the church, including the Lutheran | | 19 | | Woman's Missionary League (LWML), the Ladies Guild, the Church | | 20 | | Council, the Board of Christian Education, the PTL, Christians | | 21 | | in Action, the church choir, the Altar Guild, the Board of | | 22 | | Trustees, the Board of Elders, Youth Group, and the Sunshine | | 23 | | Club; and

| | 1 | | WHEREAS, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran has had a long list | | 2 | | of pastors dedicated to the church and its parishioners, | | 3 | | including Carl Eissfeldt, August Frederking, Theodore Herman | | 4 | | Dorn, Edwin Pflug, R. Kamphonefner, R. Mohrhardt, M.K. Hargens, | | 5 | | Arthur Bodley, Richard Robinson, Paul Anderson, and Jeffery P. | | 6 | | Howell; and
| | 7 | | WHEREAS, The theme for the anniversary celebration is | | 8 | | "Compelled to Tell...125 years of God's Grace"; therefore, be | | 9 | | it
| | 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | | 11 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | | 12 | | we congratulate St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and School | | 13 | | on the celebration of the 125th anniversary of its founding; | | 14 | | and be it further
