HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the DePaul University Women's Basketball team on their outstanding achievement in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament; and

WHEREAS, The DePaul Women's Basketball team advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament as the third seed, the highest in the program's history; and

WHEREAS, Their 2011 appearance in the tournament was their ninth consecutive appearance and their 16th appearance overall; and

WHEREAS, The DePaul University Women's Basketball team compiled a 13-3 Big East Conference record and a 29-7 overall record, the most wins by a team in the program's history; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Blue Demons had a perfect 17-0 record on their home court at the McGrath Phillips Arena; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Blue Demons scored a total of 2,650 points and had a total of 635 assists, both of which are single-season records; and

WHEREAS, Keisha Hampton and Deirdre Naughton were both honorable mention All-American selections; Sam Quigley was named to the second team, shared the Big East Sportsmanship Award, and was a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award as the nation's best point guard; Taylor Pikes was named the league's Six Man of the Year; Keisha Hampton was a unanimous first-team All Big East selection; and Felicia Chester earned an honorable mention in all-conference honors; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Blue Demons have maintained academic excellence in addition to their athletic achievements; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the DePaul University Lady Blue Demons on their outstanding achievement in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament and their commitment to athletics, academics, and sportsmanship; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to President of DePaul University Father Dennis H. Holtschneider, Athletic Director Jean Lenti Ponsetto, Head Coach Doug Bruno, and the members of the 2011 Lady Blue Demons Basketball Team.
