HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago (RHAMC), an Illinois Not-For-Profit corporation, has been awarded the prestigious Edward R. Loveland Memorial Award in 2011 from the American College of Physicians; and

WHEREAS, The award is given yearly to one individual or organization in the entire United States for a distinguished contribution in the health field; and

WHEREAS, Respiratory Health Association was recognized for its long history of community lung health work in metropolitan Chicago and Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Respiratory Health Association was commended specifically for its advocacy work to pass smoke-free laws in Illinois, its work to develop a State plan for addressing COPD in Illinois, and its Fight Asthma Now program for schoolchildren, which has been used to teach more than 2,500 Chicago Public School children to manage their asthma; and

WHEREAS, Respiratory Health Association addresses asthma, COPD, lung cancer, tobacco control, and air quality with a comprehensive approach involving research, education, and advocacy activities; and

WHEREAS, Respiratory Health Association has formed partnerships with schools, childcare providers, community organizations, and local businesses throughout the State of Illinois to help succeed in achieving its mission; and

WHEREAS, With this honor, Respiratory Health Association joins the ranks of past recipients of the Edward R. Loveland Memorial Award, including the Centers for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend Respiratory Health Association on this award and its continued leadership in addressing lung health through research, education, and advocacy; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Respiratory Health Association as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
