HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On March 24, 2011, Teamsters Joint Council 25 celebrated its 100th year of service, dedication, and representation to the hardworking men and women of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Since March 24, 1911, Teamsters Joint Council 25 has represented millions of members with nearly 70 local union affiliates throughout the Chicago metropolitan area; as an extension of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the organization has brought powerful representation to working families in a broad range of industries, from truck drivers, haulers, and transporters to meatpackers, bakery workers, funeral directors, health care providers, grocers, garage attendants, pharmacists, valets, zookeepers, firefighters, police officers, court clerks, and beyond; and

WHEREAS, Over the last century, Teamsters Joint Council 25 has rallied its union brothers and sisters to improve working conditions for men and women throughout Illinois and the United States of America, helping to establish equal compensation for equal work, to secure reasonable wages, pensions, and health and welfare benefits, to fight against unfair labor practices and afford a resonant voice for American workers; and

WHEREAS, For 100 years, compassionate and benevolent labor leaders have helped Teamsters Joint Council 25 deliver the best representation possible to Teamster affiliates and members, including past Presidents William A. Neer, Leslie G. Goudie, Frank Brown, Ray Schoessling, and Louis F. Peick, whose actions have established and sustained a vibrant labor community in and around Chicago for generations; and

WHEREAS, The current Executive Board of Teamsters Joint Council 25, under the leadership of President John T. Coli, is ensuring the Joint Council will remain a role model for organization, representation, and charity in Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend and congratulate Teamsters Joint Council 25 on its 100th anniversary and for its outstanding and meritorious service to the people of the State of Illinois; and we express the hope that additional centuries of representation may follow; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to President Coli and the Executive Board of Teamsters Joint Council 25.
