HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, On June 2, 1910, Mrs. V.H. Sweinnhart paid $16.90
3for Chicago Building Permit #21227 to build at 714 W. Sheridan
4Road (formerly 714 and 716), a six-unit apartment building
5which was to cost $36,000; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The building was designed by architect Emery
7Stanford Hall and constructed by the firm of Marquardt and
8Brunke; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The building, which shows the influence of Prairie
10Style architecture created in the Chicago area and popular in
11the first decade of the last century, and boasts flamboyant
12corner balconies and a Japanese-style double-hipped green tile
13roof, was occupied by 1911; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The general partners of 714 Sheridan Venture, an
15Illinois general partnership and the Developer of Vermillion
16Condominium, intending to submit the property to the provisions
17of the Illinois Condominium Property Act, executed that certain
18Declaration of Condominium Pursuant to the Condominium
19Property Act on July 24, 1980, which Declaration was duly
20acknowledged and recorded in the Office of the Recorder of
21Deeds of Cook County, Illinois, on July 29, 1980, as Document
22No. 25529858; and

1    WHEREAS, Prior to the first annual meeting of Unit Owners
2in 1986, the Developer caused the formation of the Vermillion
3Condominium Association as an Illinois not-for-profit
4corporation on June 5, 1986; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Vermillion Condominium Building has now
6provided comfortable residences for Chicagoans for a century;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, The building has undergone important renovation
9and beautification projects in the past 2 years in preparation
10for its centenary, including extensive landscaping, the
11addition of period-appropriate lampposts, and the restoration
12of the terra-cotta arch above the front door, all of which also
13serve to beautify the street and East Lakeview; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The residents of the Vermillion Condominium
15Building, known as "Vermillionaires," have happily maintained
16a warm sense of community and cooperation among themselves and
17with their neighbors in East Lakeview; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The current Vermillionaires, keeping that spirit
19of community alive, have invited past residents to return to
20their former building to join the celebration of the centenary
21of 714 W. Sheridan Road on July 24, 2011, the 31st anniversary

1of the declaration of the building as a condominium; therefore,
2be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we congratulate the Vermillion Condominium Building and its
6residents, past and present, for their enrichment of the
7community and aesthetic life of East Lakeview, Chicago, and we
8encourage them to continue to do so as this historical building
9enters its second century; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the residents of the Vermillion Condominium
12Building as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
