1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the
4 Mascoutah High School cheerleading squad and their coach,
5 Laurie Wager, on the occasion of being the recipient of the
6 American School Spirit Award from the Universal Cheerleaders
7 Association; and

8     WHEREAS, The American School Spirit Award is presented
9 annually to a cheer squad that exemplifies community service,
10 outstanding athletic support, spirit raising activities, and
11 high academic standards; and

12     WHEREAS, The Mascoutah High School cheerleading squad is
13 well known throughout its community for its great dedication to
14 community service work; the group has taken part in 30
15 community service events, from raising money and collecting
16 holiday toys to helping families left homeless after fires and
17 delivering Thanksgiving meals, as well as a fundraiser the
18 squad held for a local family whose house was lost to a fire
19 and helping an elderly couple clean up their property following
20 a tornado; and

21     WHEREAS, The Mascoutah High School cheerleading squad and
22 their coach are also well known for their success in

1 competition, having qualified for the IHSA Competitive
2 Cheerleading State Final meet in four of the five seasons it
3 has been contested, including a trio of Top 10 finishes; and

4     WHEREAS, Mascoutah High School cheerleading squad head
5 coach Laurie Wager won the National Spirit Coach of the Year
6 Award from the National Federation of High Schools in
7 recognition of her accomplishments as a cheerleading coach; and

8     WHEREAS, The members of the Mascoutah High School
9 cheerleading squad and their coach serve as models of hard
10 work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
11 Illinois; therefore, be it

12     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14 we congratulate the members of the Mascoutah High School
15 cheerleading squad and their coach on the occasion of receiving
16 the American School Spirit Award and wish them continued
17 success and happiness in the future; and be it further

18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the Mascoutah High School cheerleading squad as a
20 symbol of our esteem and respect.
