HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of Steamfitters Local 439 in Caseyville on the occasion of the organization's 100th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Steamfitters Local 439 was created on August 12, 1911, when Martin P. Durkin, General President of the United Association of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada, chartered the Local in East St. Louis; Local 439 resided in East St. Louis until September of 1987, when the Local's new union hall was built and named the Donald J. Bailey Building after the organization's retired business manager; and

WHEREAS, The members of Steamfitters Local 439 have built countless structures in the State of Illinois, from hospitals to schools to steel mills to powerhouses; and

WHEREAS, The members of Steamfitters Local 439 have donated many thousands of man hours to their communities; the Local has raised funds for numerous charitable causes, including multiple sclerosis research, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Burn Camp, the United Way, St. Vincent DePaul in St. Louis, Missouri, the Caseyville and Fairview Heights Police Departments, and the Hollywood Heights and Fairview Heights Fire Departments; the organization has also assisted military units, including the United States Marine Corps' 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion and the 3rd Platoon "Road Warriors" / 561st Engineer Company at Joint Base Balad in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, Steamfitters Local 439 prides itself on its health and welfare, pension, annuity, and training programs, which it provides to its members at no expense; and

WHEREAS, The members of Steamfitters Local 439 serve as models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of Steamfitters Local 439 on the occasion of the organization's 100th anniversary and wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the members of the Steamfitters Local 439 as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
