HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Bill Mitchell for
4receiving the "2011 Best High School Blood Drive Coordinator
5Award" from the Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, In 2007, Bill Mitchell took over the organization
8of the annual spring Student Council blood drive at East Leyden
9High School; and
 
10    WHEREAS, A second yearly blood drive in the fall was soon
11added to East Leyden's schedule at Bill's request; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Under Bill's innovative leadership, the donations
13collected at East Leyden High School's blood drives have risen
14dramatically and are now well more than double what they were
15when he began; and
 
16    WHEREAS, East Leyden's faculty and staff have donated over
171,330 units of blood at the school drives Bill has overseen;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, The success in Bill's drives lies in the
20enthusiasm he has generated among students through his

1creativity in turning the blood drives into "theatrical
2productions" in which student volunteers feel that they are
3part of a cast playing various roles to manage the various
4aspects of the drives; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Several East Leyden High School Alumni have gone
6on to achieve placement in pharmacy school and Harvard
7University as a result of scholarship money that was awarded to
8the high school because of its successful blood drives; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The results of Bill's efforts will continue to be
10seen for years to come because of the critical role high school
11blood drives play in cultivating lifetime donors; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In 2011, LifeSource, Chicagoland's Blood Center,
13nominated Bill Mitchell as the "Best High School Blood Drive
14Coordinator" in a state-wide competition hosted by the Illinois
15Coalition of Community Blood Centers; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we commend Bill Mitchell for his selfless service to his
19community and his strong commitment to his students; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
