HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to recognize milestones in the
4State of Illinois; and
 
5    WHEREAS, St. Edward Catholic School provides a high
6quality, faith-based education from three-year old preschool
7through eighth grade; academic excellence is enhanced by
8enrichment activities and a strong community environment that
9helps students develop into well-rounded individuals; and
 
10    WHEREAS, St. Edward Catholic School is administered by the
11Dominican Sisters of Springfield; the school was founded in
121910 with 200 students, and currently has 380 students
13enrolled, who hail from Mayfair and many of the surrounding
14neighborhoods, which include Old Irving Park, Albany Park, and
15Portage Park; and
 
16    WHEREAS, St. Edward Catholic School has a rich history of
17serving the area's Catholic youth; it is one of the few area
18Catholic schools with actual "Sisters" as administrators and
19teachers; the school principal, Sister Marie Michelle Hackett,
20OP, is a Springfield Dominican and there are four nuns serving
21as teachers in the school; and

1    WHEREAS, St. Edward Catholic School is located on the
2Northwest side of Chicago near Montrose Avenue and the Kennedy
3Expressway; the school makes its home in the Mayfair
4neighborhood on Sunnyside Avenue between Kostner and Lowell
5Avenues; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The school's mission statement is: "We are a
7community rooted in faith and supported by St. Edward Parish
8and school families. Commissioned by Jesus to spread the Good
9News, we empower our students to serve one another and the
10global community. We provide a solid educational foundation
11enhanced by the arts. We instill a passion for lifelong
12learning, and we form committed Catholics who care for the
13earth and work for peace and justice in our diverse and
14ever-changing world"; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we commend the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of St.
18Edward Catholic School on its long and proud tradition of
19excellence, and congratulate everyone involved in making the
20school's 100th anniversary a memorable event; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to St. Edward Catholic School as a symbol of our
23respect and esteem.
