HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Bob Spoo has retired after coaching high school and collegiate football for 50 years, the last 25 as the head coach at Eastern Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, Coach Bob Spoo recorded 144 wins during his 25 years at Eastern Illinois University, the most in school history; and

WHEREAS, Nine of Coach Bob Spoo's Eastern Illinois University teams appeared in NCAA post-season tournaments, the fifth most in the history of the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision; and

WHEREAS, Coach Spoo was honored with 4 conference "Coach of the Year" awards and was once named runner-up for national "Coach of the Year"; and

WHEREAS, Coach Spoo's 25 years at Eastern Illinois University rank him fourth among active NCAA Division I coaches for longest tenure at the same university; and

WHEREAS, Coach Spoo's 50 years of service brought honor and distinction to Eastern Illinois University and the State of Illinois due to his integrity, his dedication, and his commitment to mentoring thousands of young men; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Coach Bob Spoo on his retirement and wish him continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Bob Spoo as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
