HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Naperville Public Library has consistently served the residents of Naperville since 1898; and

WHEREAS, The Naperville Public Library currently provides library services in 3 full-service facilities and online to 88,000 card holders, circulating over 4.6 million items per year; the library also responds to nearly 295,000 reference questions annually and hosts over 1,800 programs annually for more than 83,000 attendees of all ages; and

WHEREAS, The Naperville Public Library has demonstrated strong fiscal responsibility throughout its years of operation and has, over the past 3 years, steadily decreased its property tax rate while maintaining the highest level of service; and

WHEREAS, The Naperville Public Library has consistently operated at a level of optimum efficiency and staffing to serve the residents of Naperville; and

WHEREAS, The Library Journal Index of Public Library Service, a national rating system based on Institute of Museum and Library Sciences data, most recently rated 7,513 public libraries throughout the Unites States to identify a concise and straightforward set of indicators of library service provision; and

WHEREAS, LJ Index scores were based on 4 per capita service output statistics: library visits, circulation, program attendance, and public Internet computer use; and

WHEREAS, The Naperville Public Library received a "5 Star" designation, the highest rating given by the LJ Index, in November of 2011; and

WHEREAS, The Naperville Public Library is one of only 5 public libraries in the State of Illinois and 85 public libraries in the United States to be awarded a "5 Star" designation; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we commend and congratulate the Board of Trustees, administration, and staff of the Naperville Public Library for achieving this honor and wish them continued success in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Naperville Public Library as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
