HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Irene Vicich on the occasion of her 100th birthday on May 30, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Irene Vicich was born on May 30, 1912, in Thayer; she is the oldest of the 8 children of Anna and Luke Maynerich; and

WHEREAS, In 1926, 14-year-old Irene Vicich and her cousin moved to Chicago; she completed her schooling at the end of 8th grade; during her life, she worked at many jobs, including a job making neckties in a storefront window in Ohio and working at a peanut butter factory in Chicago; she subsequently worked at Phoenix Closure for 25 years until her retirement in 1977; she also served as a union steward at Phoenix; and

WHEREAS, Irene Vicich married her sweetheart, Joseph Vicich, on September 4, 1937; together, they had 2 children, Joesph Jr. and Arleen, 3 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Irene Vicich is a member of numerous organizations, including Jolly Seniors, AARP Chapter 4720, the Civic Club, Lodge 32, the Heritage Club, the 23rd Ward Seniors, the Moose Lodge, Spa. St. Anne's, and Golden Ages at St. Richards; and

WHEREAS, Irene Vicich enjoys music, dancing, telling jokes, and playing bingo; she is fondly referred to as "Bingo Irene" by her friends; and

WHEREAS, Irene Vicich will host her 100th birthday party at European Chalet in Chicago on June 3, 2012; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Irene Vicich on the occasion of her 100th birthday and wish her many happy and healthy years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Irene Vicich as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
