HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bishop
4Frank M. Munsey of Munster, Indiana, who passed away on
5February 5, 2011; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Bishop Frank Munsey was born on August 11, 1930;
7his parents were Frank and Eva Munsey of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Bishop Frank Munsey was the founder and Pastor
9Emeritus of Family Christian Center (FCC), a mega-church of
10more than 17,000 in Munster, Indiana, having founded the church
11in 1953; he remained at FCC until 1985, when his son, the
12Reverend Steve Munsey, assumed charge of the church; the FCC is
13known for sermons that fuse the Gospels with high-tech
14theatrics and its diverse outreach programs; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Under the leadership of and following the example
16of Bishop Frank Munsey, the Family Christian Center has
17distributed five million tons of food to local families; the
18church's hospital ministry sends chaplains to 23 local
19hospitals; five Correctional Facilities within the Northwest
20Indiana-Chicagoland area receive hope for a new life through
21FCC's prison ministry; FCC also provides spiritual and
22financial help to missionaries in more than 10 countries,

1supporting orphanages, schools, and churches through world
2missions; and
 
3    WHEREAS, In 1985, Bishop Frank Munsey left pastoral care
4and focused on world missions; he ministered in 105 countries
5before settling in Sofia, Bulgaria, where, in 1992, he and his
6wife began the American English Academy, a school that provides
7excellence in education under a Christian banner in a largely
8un-churched nation; the academy's 175 students hail from 31
9countries; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bishop Frank Munsey was preceded in death by his
11parents and his siblings, Kenneth Munsey and Frances Munsey;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Bishop Frank Munsey is survived by his wife of
14nearly 60 years, Ruth (nee McConley); his brother, Darrel
15Munsey (Carolyn); his children, Stephan K. Munsey (Melodye),
16Joe D. Munsey (Robin), Phillip M. Munsey (Jeannie), and Sheila
17R. Munsey Gerald (Kevin; his 9 grandchildren; his 10
18great-grandchildren; and his many sisters and brothers-in-law,
19nieces and nephews, friends, and colleagues; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of Bishop Frank Munsey as an expression
4of our sympathy.
