SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/11-214 new
625 ILCS 5/11-215 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that local units of government shall report to the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Department shall post on its official website all preferred truck routes under the local unit of government's jurisdiction which are not classified as Class II or Class III truck routes. Provides that local units of government shall report their designated truck route network or lack of truck routes to the Illinois Department of Transportation. Provides that the Secretary of State shall include in its commercial drivers license curriculum and study guide, and in materials relating to obtaining or renewing a commercial drivers license, the distinctions between utilizing a truck-attributed global positioning system device and other non-truck-attributed global positioning system devices. Effective January 1, 2012.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Sections 11-214 and 11-215 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/11-214 new)
7    Sec. 11-214. Local government reporting.
8    (a) Local units of government shall report to the Illinois
9Department of Transportation and the Department shall post on
10its official website all preferred truck routes under the local
11unit of government's jurisdiction which are not classified as
12Class II or Class III truck routes.
13    (b) Local units of government shall report their designated
14truck route network to the Illinois Department of
15Transportation. If a local unit of government has no designated
16truck routes, the local unit of government shall affirm to the
17Department that it has no designated truck routes.
 
18    (625 ILCS 5/11-215 new)
19    Sec. 11-215. Secretary of State to provide information on
20use of truck global positioning systems.
21    (a) The Secretary of State shall include in its commercial
22drivers license curriculum and study guide the distinctions

4    (b) The Secretary of State shall include the distinctions
5between utilizing a truck-attributed global positioning system
6device and other non-truck-attributed global positioning
7system devices in any documents disseminated in connection with
8obtaining and renewing a commercial drivers license.
 
9    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January
