SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Karen Marie Hollis of Rockford, who passed away on December 10, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Karen Hollis was born on November 21, 1964, in Chicago to Thomas and Nancy (Fuscone) Foley; she married Scott Hollis on October 7, 1988; and

WHEREAS, Karen Hollis enjoyed pizza and Bingo nights at the independent multiple intelligences school, where she was the board president; she enjoyed reading, skiing, attending her children's swimming events, and traveling with her family; she was involved in an ongoing campaign to raise $850,000 to upgrade Spectrum Progressive School's exterior and to expand the school by buying additional property; and

WHEREAS, Karen Hollis had been with the Rockford Health Systems for more than 25 years and was a member of the REACT Flight Team; it was during the discharge of her duties for REACT that she and fellow flight nurse Jim Dillow, and pilot Andrew Olesen, perished when they encountered bad weather on route to pick up a critically ill patient; and

WHEREAS, Karen Hollis was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Foley and mother-in-law, Carol Ellis; and

WHEREAS, Karen Hollis is survived by her husband, Scott; her daughters, Sydney Marie and Samantha Carol; her dog, Reggie; her mother, Nancy Foley; her sisters, Cathleen (Scott) Person, Linda (John) Timm, and Nancy (Jim) Appell; her brothers, Tom (Carol) Foley and John (Colette) Foley; her father-in-law, Charles Ellis; her nieces and nephews, Ryan, Michael, Kelsey, Jennifer, Ethan, Shaun, Kevin, Brenden, Erin, Franchesca, Jack, Ariana, Joshua, and Annalisa; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Karen Hollis, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Karen Hollis as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
