SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert Gillis of Bloomington, who passed away on March 22, 2011; and

WHEREAS, He was born September 8, 1927, in Bloomington, the son of Ruel and Hulda Hanell Gillis; he married Josephine M. Pickett on February 18, 1950, in Decatur; and

WHEREAS, He was an active member of the West Twin Grove Christian Church in Bloomington; he worked at Ralston Purina Company for 37 years and farmed in rural Bloomington and raised livestock and sheep; he was well known locally and nationally throughout the sheep industry where he had made many friends; and

WHEREAS, He served in the United States Army; he was a supporter of 4-H and was a former superintendent and judge at the fair; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his brother, Jack; and his son-in-law, Jerry Bryant; and

WHEREAS, Robert Gillis is survived by his children, Marcia (Doug) Olson, Bill (Phyllis) Gillis, Connie Bryant, and Barb (Aaron) Quick; his grandchildren, Aaron Olson, Kirstin (Nathan) Hawley, Jenny Gillis, Pam Gillis, Ron Gillis, Jacob (Kelly) Vial, and Molly (Brandon) Laue; his great-grandson, Charlie Hawley; his sister, Dorothy Basting; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Robert Gillis; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Gillis as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
