SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Roger William Grandt of Arlington Heights, who passed away on January 20, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Roger Grandt was born on September 29, 1925, in Arlington Heights; his parents were Charles F. and Martha (nee Neumann) Grandt; and

WHEREAS, Roger Grandt served his country with pride and distinction as a member of the United States Navy during World War II; he was a member of the Arlington Heights American Legion Merle Guild Post #208 and Arlington Heights VFW Post #981; and

WHEREAS, Roger Grandt was the owner of Grandt's Super Shell station in Arlington Heights for over 50 years; Grandt's Super Shell was well known throughout his community for the 15-foot long rocket on the station's canopy; and

WHEREAS, Roger Grandt was a 3rd (of current 5th) generation member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where he was an active member; he was also a founding member of the Lutheran Laymen's League (LLL), chairman of the Trustees, chairman of the School Board, and a member of the mission that founded St. Peter Lutheran Church in Middleburg, South Africa; and

WHEREAS, Roger Grandt was preceded in death by his son, David Grandt; and

WHEREAS, Roger Grandt is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geraldine (nee Marr); his children, Craig (Deborah) Grandt, Tracey (George) Surprenant; his daughter-in-law, Christine Grandt; his grandchildren, Scott and Todd Grandt, Nicole (John) Massouras, Mandy Grandt, Ashley (Steven) Hubbell, Allison Grandt, and Jessica, Grant (Danielle), and Geoffrey Surprenant; his great-grandchildren, Brooke, Emma, Kate, Jake, and Baby Hubbell; his brother, Wilbert Grandt; and his stepbrother, Bob Bentz; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Roger William Grandt; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Roger Grandt as an expression of our sympathy.
