SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Virginia Bell Marsh Gore, formerly of
4Decatur, who passed away on May 21, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was the daughter of Rev. Dr. Thomas Harley
6Marsh and Bertha Anderson Marsh; she married Norman J. Gore;
7she devoted her life to children, teaching students with
8physical disabilities at Gastman School; she was a kindergarten
9teacher/principal at Argenta-Oreana for many years, retiring
10at age 70; and
 
11    WHEREAS, She was recognized by the State of Illinois as an
12expert in early childhood education where her kindergarten was
13a state demonstration center; Illinois College named her as a
14Distinguished Alum for her work as an educator; as a member of
15Decatur's First Baptist Church, she served in many leadership
16roles including youth group advisor and ABW President; she
17helped form the church's pre-school program and was a member of
18the Builder's Class; and
 
19    WHEREAS, As a community volunteer, she held memberships in
20Delta Kappa Gamma, Kiwanis, Junior Welfare, Civil War
21Roundtable, and many other organizations; during World War II,
22she helped form what would later become occupational therapy

1services at Decatur Memorial Hospital, where she also
2volunteered with the Auxiliary; she served as a troop leader
3for the Girl Scouts, leading one troop to serve as Junior
4Auxiliary volunteers at the hospital; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was well-respected for her lively intellect
6that made her a life-long learner; she attended Illinois
7College and graduated from Millikin University, where she
8received her Bachelors and Masters degrees; she was an
9international traveler, having climbed the Great Wall for the
10third time at age 88; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Virginia Bell Marsh Gore is survived by her
12daughters, Susan Ahmad (Syed) and Joan Krupa (Ted); her 7
13grandchildren, Omar Ahmad (Jennifer), Sufia Fleming (William),
14Adham Ahmad (Stephani), Kamron Ahmad (Kirsten), Stephen Krupa
15(Deborah), Mark Krupa, and Matthew Krupa; her brother, John
16Marsh; her 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and
17nephews; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20her family and friends, the passing of Virginia Bell Marsh
21Gore; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
