SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Betty Lou Knight of Elvaston, who passed away on June 26, 2011; and

WHEREAS, She was born on May 31, 1930, in Keokuk, Iowa; her parents were Lily Florilla (Davis) Stark and John Stark; she spent much of her childhood in Kentucky with her grandmother, Bertha Bell (Baird) Davis, before returning to Keokuk, where she attended Keokuk High School; and

WHEREAS, On February 4, 1949, she was united in marriage to Bill Knight; and

WHEREAS, She was a homemaker and also worked part-time at Jo's Swap Shop in Carthage; she was active in her church, Elvaston Presbyterian Church; she volunteered with the Cub Scouts and served as a Gray Lady at Memorial Hospital in Carthage; she enjoyed spending time with her family, her pets, gardening, cooking, dancing, playing bridge, and golfing; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; and her brother, John "Buster" Stark; and

WHEREAS, Betty Lou Knight is survived by her husband, Bill; her sons, Bill (Terry) Knight Jr. and Tracy (Sharon) Knight; and her grandson, Russell Baker; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Betty Lou Knight; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Betty Lou Knight as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
