SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Nat P. Ozmon, who passed away on September 14, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Nat Ozmon was born on March 4, 1925, in Davenport, Iowa; he attended college at New York University and received his law degree from Northwestern University, where he ranked first in his class; he was also elected to the Board of Law Review Editors and was installed in the Order of the Coif, a legal scholastic honor society; and

WHEREAS, Nat Ozmon was the senior member and founder of Anesi, Ozmon, Rodin, Novak, & Kohen, Ltd.; during his 40-year career as a trial and appellate lawyer, he was dedicated to preserving and enhancing the rights of injured victims; and

WHEREAS, Nat Ozmon served as an Adjunct Professor at Loyola University School of Law, where he taught Trial Advocacy senior law students for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, Nat Ozmon was certified by the American Board of Trial Advocates; he was a diplomat of the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys and a fellow and a founder of the Roscoe Pound Foundation, the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, and the Institute for Injury Reduction; he was a recognized leader of the bar and served on the managing boards of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Society of Trial Lawyers; he was also a past president of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association; and

WHEREAS, Nat Ozmon was listed as one of "The Best Lawyers in America" by the Harvard Law School Study; he was also the recipient of the Leonard Ring Lifetime Achievement Award for his commitment to victims rights and trial by jury; and

WHEREAS, Nat Ozmon is survived by his wife, June Maguire Ozmon; his children, Nat P. Ozmon, Jr., Laird Ozmon, Lorna Ozmon, Kelle Ozmon, and Rachel Maguire; and his six grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Nat P. Ozmon; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Nat Ozmon as an expression of our sympathy.
