| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Anthony "Tony" Romolo of Peoria, who | 4 | | passed away on December 6, 2011; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born July 19, 1930 in Peoria, to Joseph and | 6 | | Genevieve DeRose Romolo; he married Betty Lovan on December 24, | 7 | | 1951, in Peoria; he served in the United States Army during the | 8 | | Korean War; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, He was a member of the Italian American Society | 10 | | and the Knights of Columbus for many years; he was a member of | 11 | | Laborers Local 165; he worked as a dispatcher for the Illinois | 12 | | State Police when he returned from Korea; upon his father's | 13 | | death in 1955, he operated Romolo's Tap for 20 years; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, He became the Illinois Laborers and Contractors | 15 | | Joint Apprentice and Training Program administrator in 1971, | 16 | | where he served until his retirement on February 1, 2001, | 17 | | making him the longest serving training director within the | 18 | | Laborers International Union of North America; the Board of | 19 | | Trustees named the training center the Anthony C. Romolo | 20 | | Training Center in Mount Sterling, to honor his work and | 21 | | dedication to the members; he and the Board of Trustees of the | 22 | | Training Program broke all barriers and became the first |

| 1 | | training or apprentice program in the state of Illinois to | 2 | | offer an all women's class in 1979; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, He was a Spalding Institute graduate, playing | 4 | | football on the 1944 football team that was inducted into the | 5 | | Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame; he also played semi-pro | 6 | | football for the Canton Jets; he was active in softball, being | 7 | | an Illinois Amateur Softball Association player, sponsor, and | 8 | | commissioner; he was inducted into the ASA Hall of Fame in 2008 | 9 | | in the Meritorious Service Category; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, He loved his children and grandchildren; his | 11 | | passion was attending every game and dance recital they | 12 | | participated in and videotaping all the games and practices; he | 13 | | spent countless hours making copies of every game he taped for | 14 | | each and every player on the team and never missed a game; he | 15 | | was grandpa to all the players and he made everyone smile when | 16 | | he was around; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; and | 18 | | his brother, Pandolphi; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Anthony Romolo is survived by his daughter, Lila | 20 | | (Tim) Kennelly, and their children, Nathan and Katie Kennelly; | 21 | | his son, Joe (Pam) Romolo and their children, Kristin, Luke and | 22 | | Nick Romolo; and his daughter, Toni Genovese and her children, |

| 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 3 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 4 | | his family and friends, the passing of Anthony Romolo; and be | 5 | | it further
| 6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 7 | | presented to the family of Anthony Romolo as a symbol of our | 8 | | sincere sympathy.
