SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph Gutierrez of Joliet, who passed
4away on September 20, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born December 17, 1921 in Temple, Texas; he
6graduated from Joliet Township High School class of 1940; he
7was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 5th Army Air
8Corps in the South Pacific; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He was a life member of V.F.W. Cantigny Post #367,
10American Legion Harwood Post #5, a Founder of American Legion
11Post #1284, and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge
12#300; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Following his tour of duty, he returned to Joliet
14and formed Joey's Latin Combo; he was a member of many
15orchestras and bands including the Joliet Symphony Orchestra,
16Joliet Symphonetts, the Bicentennial Park Pops Orchestra, a
17founding member of the American Legion Band, a 20-year member
18of the Lewis Symphony, a 21-year member of the Joliet Junior
19College Band, and he played with the Mariachi Potosino for 20
20years; he was a member of the American Federations of Musicians
21for over 50 years; and

1    WHEREAS, He was the first bugler at Abraham Lincoln
2National Cemetery; he volunteered at the Will County Health
3Center as a translator; along with his siblings he volunteered
4for mission trips with Eye Care International; he was retired
5from Commonwealth Edison Braidwood Nuclear Power; he was a
6charter member of Judson Memorial Baptist Church; he was a
7founder of the Ceco Recreation Club; and he was also an avid
8sportsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, the White Sox, and the
9Bears; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his loving wife,
11Genevieve R. Gutierrez (nee Smeets); his son, Ron; and his
12parents, Natividad and Felipa Gutierrez; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Joseph Gutierrez was the beloved father of Rick
14Gutierrez, Karyn Benson, Sharon McDonald, and Kimberly (Jay)
15Creasey; he was the loving grandfather of Michael, Matthew,
16Maitlyn Creasey, Melissa (Steve) Breen, Kristen (Al)
17Dominguez, Jeffrey (Ashley) Benson, Amanda (Gary) Birnbaum,
18and Jason Olivera; he also had 11 great-grandchildrenp; he
19leaves to cherish his memory his brothers and sisters, Hope
20Angeles, David (Carmen) Gutierrez, Carmela Camarena, Tony
21(Dorathy) Gutierrez, Jesse (Donna) Gutierrez, Robert (Barbara)
22Gutierrez, Rachel Prado, and Dr. Daniel (Barbara) Gutierrez; he
23is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins;
24therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
3his family and friends, the passing of Joseph Gutierrez; and be
4it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Joseph Gutierrez as a symbol of our
7sincere sympathy.
