SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dennis A. "Denny" Marquardt of Bloomington, who passed away on December 15, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Marquardt was born on December 24, 1954, in Bloomington; he was the son of Carl and Margie Haas Marquardt; he married Barbara Scott on June 7, 1980; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Marquardt graduated from Bloomington High School in 1973; he was employed at Fred's Spudnuts prior to purchasing the business on April 1, 1974; after changing the name of the business to Denny's Doughnuts, he served the community from several locations in Bloomington-Normal over the years; he was also the owner and operator of Bagelman's in Normal; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Marquardt was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church in Bloomington; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Marquardt was the recipient of the WJBC Spirit of McLean County Award, the Illinois State University Golden Redbird Award, and was inducted into the BHS Hall of Fame; the Red Cross acknowledged his community service with an award in his name; he also received the Modern Baking Leadership Award and the Illinois Vocational Association Business and Industry Award and was given a key to the City of Bloomington when he opened his store on South Main Street in Bloomington; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Marquardt was preceded in death by his father; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Marquardt is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sons, Ben (Andrea) Marquardt, David (Morgan) Marquardt, Ryan Marquardt, and Leo Marquardt; his mother, Margie Marquardt; his brothers, Gary (Jan) Marquardt and David (Gail) Marquardt; his sisters, Sandy (Mike) Ireland, Judy (Howard) Parker, and Diane (Dick) Swanson; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dennis A. "Denny" Marquardt; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dennis Marquardt as an expression of our sympathy.
