SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Roy E. Boren of Herrin, who passed away
4on March 9, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born May 17, 1919, in Herrin, to Thomas and
6Lylian (Everly) Boren; he was united in marriage with Mary
7Belle Francis on July 9, 1938, in Jackson, Missouri; and
 
8    WHEREAS, He formerly co-owned and operated with his wife,
9Mary Belle, the Boren's IGA grocery stores in Herrin,
10Harrisburg, and Carbondale; he was a longtime director of the
11Herrin Security Bank Board and retired as director emeritus for
12Herrin Security Bank; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He was a deacon and taught boy's Sunday school
14class at First Baptist Church in Herrin; he was a veteran of
15the United States Navy during World War II, serving with the
16Seabee's in Guam and Okinawa; and
 
17    WHEREAS, He and his wife loved to travel throughout the
18world with their family and close friends, Bob and Dorothy
19Mercer, Ruth Wilma, and Tommy Colombo; and
 
20    WHEREAS, His memberships included but were not limited to:

1lifetime membership in the Herrin Elks, Baker-Ladd VFW Posts
21567, Herrin American Legion Post 645, Herrin Chamber of
3Commerce, Herrin Better Business Association, to which he was
4the biggest promoter and supporter, Herrin United Way,
5volunteer at the Herrin Hospital for 15 years, former member of
6the Herrin Kiwanis's Club, Oddfellows Club, and Executive
7Committee Director of the Illinois Food Retailer's
8Association; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He was one of the founding organizers of
10HerrinFesta Italiana and was honored as a Special Guest in
112011; he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the
12Herrin Chamber of Commerce in 2006; and assisted with
13coordinating the Mayor Quaglia's Thanksgiving Dinner for the
14citizens of Herrin; and
 
15    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents;
16his siblings, Helen Long, Mike Boren, Woodrow Boren, and twin
17sister, Faye Musgrave; his niece, Lynne Rae Hindman; his
18nephew, Ronnie Musgrave; his brother-in-law, Paul Francis; and
19his close friends, Bob Mercer, Ruth Wilma, and Tommy Colombo;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, Roy Boren is survived by his daughter, Brenda
22Preston and Ed Schullian; his sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry
23Boren and David and Amy Boren; his grandchildren, Amy Suchadoll

1and her husband, Jeff, James Neal Preston and fiancée, Sarah
2Varoujean, Brian Preston and fiancée, Beth Foster, Joshua
3Boren, and Danielle Boren; his great-grandchildren, Jordan
4Preston, Brandon Suchadoll, Jake Suchadoll, and Jenna
5Suchadoll; his sister-in-law, Barbara Francis; his nephews and
6nieces, Tom Boren and his wife, Ibby Jean, Morris "Chick" Boren
7and his wife, Carlen, Terry Boren and his wife, Maria, Mike
8Musgrave and his wife, Pam, Jim Francis and his wife, Wendy,
9Paul E. Francis, and Sallie Ann and Brian Suprenant; and his
10several great-nieces and nephews and close friends Dorothy
11Mercer and Melba Thurman; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14his family and friends, the passing of Roy Boren; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Roy Boren as a symbol of our sincere
18sympathy.
