SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Elvis Nolen of West City, who passed away
4on April 6, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen was born on February 18, 1926, in West
6Frankfort; he was the son of Oren and Genieve (DePriest) Nolen;
7he married Dorothy Bearden Reed on May 25, 1984, in the Third
8Baptist Church of West Frankfort; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen served as a member of the United
10States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Campaign; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen began his career as a school teacher
12after graduating from Southern Illinois University and the
13University of Illinois; he served as the regional
14superintendant of schools for Franklin County for many years;
15after retiring, he operated Budman's Hydraulic for his aunt,
16Bernice Murphy, and was assisted by his shop foreman and
17friend, Jay Coleman; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen was a licensed pilot who flew to
19meetings in various cities during his career and was associated
20with Civil Air Patrol; and

1    WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen was a 58-year member of Masonic Lodge
2802 in Carterville; he was also a member of the Ainad Shriners
3Temple of East St. Louis, the Franklin County Shrine Club,
4Scottish Rite, Orient American Legion Post 1961, West Frankfort
5Elks Club 1340, the Franklin County Retired Teachers
6Association, and the Illinois Association of Retired Regional
7Superintendants of Schools; he was also a past president of the
8Illinois Association of County Officials and a past president
9of the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendants of
10Schools; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen was preceded in death by his parents;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Elvis Nolen is survived by his wife, Dorothy
14Nolen; his daughters, Karran Nolen Crombar and Janis Reed
15Thomas and her husband, Skip; his grandchildren, Allen Crombar
16and his wife, Deanna, Lance Crombar and his wife, Brooke, and
17Brandon Mandrell and his wife, Alex; his great-grandchildren,
18Kate and Corey Crombar and Harper Mandrell; his special aunt,
19Bernice Murphy; his cousins, Karen Novy and her husband, John,
20Kathy Reilly, and Bob DePriest and his wife, Margo; his other
21family members, Charles and Kaye Howell, Robert Barnfield, Alan
22and Vicki Barnfield, Mary Mandrell, and Mekaela; his special
23helpful neighbors, Roger and Tami Price and Bob and Betsy
24Varis; and his special longtime friend, SIU President Glenn

1Poshard and his wife, Jo; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
4his family and friends, the passing of Elvis Nolen; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Elvis Nolen as an expression of our
8sympathy.
