SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Jane Hanna Ising of Homewood, who passed away February 2, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Jane Ising was born on February 2, 1902, in Berlin, Germany; her parents were Hans and Clara (Moldehaur) Ehmer; she married Ernst Ising on December 23, 1930, in Berlin; and

WHEREAS, Jane Ising earned her Ph.D. in economics from the University of Berlin and researched for 2 professors there for 10 years; after they were forced out of Germany by the Nazis, she and her husband ended up in Luxembourg during World War II; after the war, they came to America and soon settled in Peoria, where she was involved in numerous community works, including the opening of the local Planned Parenthood; she also taught economics at Bradley University and led the great books classes for many years; and

WHEREAS, Jane Ising was preceded in death by her husband and her parents; and

WHEREAS, Jane Ising is survived by her son, Thomas Ising (Carol); her grandchildren, Chuck and Ralph (Wendy); and her great-grandchildren, Jake, Joey, Rebecca, Sarah, and Maria; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Jane Hanna Ising; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jane Ising as an expression of our sympathy.
