SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert Arthur Dietmeyer of Gurnee, who passed away on April 6, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Robert Dietmeyer was born on May 9, 1927, in Burlington, Iowa; he moved to Waukegan as a child and graduated from Waukegan High School in 1944; and

WHEREAS, Robert Dietmeyer was a member of the United States Army; he served in the 703rd Military Police Battalion in Washington D.C., where he attained the rank of sergeant while helping to guard President Harry Truman; and

WHEREAS, After leaving the Army, Robert Dietmeyer enrolled at the University of Iowa, where he graduated in 1950; he then served as Manager of Corporate Benefits at Abbott Labs, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 1986; while at Abbott, he worked towards and earned his master's degree from Marquette University; and

WHEREAS, Robert Dietmeyer served as President of the Holy Name Society of the St. Anastasia Parish in Waukegan and volunteered on the Gurnee Village Civil Service Commission from 1988 to 1991; he was involved with numerous charities, including the Knights of Columbus, the Salvation Army, and the American Cancer Society; he was also a founding member of the St. Paul's Church Parish in Gurnee and served as a little league baseball coach for all 5 of his sons with the North Side A.C. in Waukegan; and

WHEREAS, Robert Dietmeyer was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Catherine Efinger Dietmeyer, and his parents, Viola and Fred Dietmeyer; and

WHEREAS, Robert Dietmeyer is survived by his sons, David (Nanette), Thomas, John, Philip (Susan), and James (Dara); his daughters, Patricia Hook and Mary Minehart (Darwin); his brother, Richard (Thelma); his grandchildren, Tony, Kelly, and Keith Morse and Colleen, Desiree, and Jimmy Dietmeyer; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Robert Arthur Dietmeyer; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Dietmeyer as an expression of our sympathy.
