SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Evelyn Rosemary Koine of Carbondale, who passed away on May 7, 2012; and

WHEREAS, She was born March 14, 1953, in Carbondale, the daughter of the late William R. and Eurma C. Hayes, the seventh of 10 children; she accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Bethel AME Church, holding positions as chairwoman of Feed My Sheep Community Kitchen, choir president, steward, and stewardess; and

WHEREAS, She was a community activist and chairwoman of the Carbondale Preservation Committee and a board member of the Eurma C. Hayes Center; and

WHEREAS, Evelyn Koine leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 34 years, David K. Koine; her daughters, Nicole T. Hayes Mason and Edith C. Koine; her sons, William K., Arquisha Kinyua, and William K. Koine,; her stepson, Koine K. (Wanjiku) Kinyua; her 21 grandchildren; her sisters, Georgetta and James Slaughter, Ovella and Ray Cooper, Kathyrn Harris, Lillian and Larry Peterson, and Rebecca Hayes Thomas; her brother, William R. and Verna Hayes; her close friends, Frances Davenport, Rosetta Douglas, Marilyn James, and Eleanor Powell; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Evelyn Koine; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Evelyn Koine as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
