SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Sammie Mae Criss of Chicago, who passed away on March 30, 2012; and

WHEREAS, She was born on March 2, 1926 in Memphis, Tennessee, to Lula Crawford Jones and Samuel Jones; she married James Criss on May 18, 1946; and

WHEREAS, She was affectionately known as "Momma" to many who knew and loved her; and

WHEREAS, She confessed Christ in Memphis before relocating to Chicago; in 1982, she joined the Tremont Tabernacle Baptist Church under the pastor and founder, J.W. Fields; she was a Pastor's Aide and a member of the Nurse's Aide Board; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret A. Woods; her husband, James Criss; her eldest son, James Criss; and her youngest daughter, Madilyn Criss; and

WHEREAS, Sammie Mae Criss is survived by her brother, Freddie Criss; her sons, Narvel and Ray; her daughter, Diana (DeWayne); her grandchildren, Antionette, Kevin, Bryan, Corey, James, Michael, Joyce, Eddie, Nicole, Renona, Samantha, Ollieiwean, and Ray Jr.; and her numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Sammie Mae Criss; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Sammie Mae Criss as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
