SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of Anthony E. "Tony" Gordon of
4Grayslake, who died on August 6, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Anthony Gordon was born in Waukegan on May 29,
61952, to Edward and Rita Gordan; he married Carolyn (nee
7Waller); he graduated from Stevenson High School, College of
8Lake County, and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale; he
9served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Army Distinguished
10Service Cross, a Silver Star, 3 Purple Hearts, and the Vietnam
11Campaign Medal; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Anthony Gordon began working full-time in
13southern Illinois as a newspaper reporter about 30 years ago;
14he worked 2 years in Evansville, Indiana, and then returned
15home to Lake County where he worked for 10 years for the
16News-Sun and then 16 years at the Daily Herald; he received the
17Liberty Bell Award for outstanding commitment and service from
18the Lake County Bar Association and the 1994 press coverage
19award from the Lake County Children's Advocacy Center; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Anthony Gordon was an avid NASCAR fan and he
21enjoyed planning vacation trips for he and his wife; and

1    WHEREAS, Anthony Gordon was preceded in death by his
2parents, Edward and Rita Gordon and his aunt, Mary Francis; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Anthony Gordon is survived by his wife, Carolyn
4and his siblings, Billy Gordon, Mary Ann Gordon, and Rita (Ed)
5Kip; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8Anthony Gordon, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
9family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Anthony Gordon as an expression of
13our deepest sympathy.
