SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of Naval Petty Officer, Gunners
4Mate 2nd Class Dion Rashun Roberts, who passed away on
5September 22, 2012; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Petty Officer Roberts was born on April 3, 1987,
7to John and Janice Roberts of North Chicago; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Petty Officer Roberts graduated from North
9Chicago Community High School in 2005; he participated in
10numerous sports and was NJROTC all 4 years of high school; he
11was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Waukegan;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Petty Officer Roberts joined the Navy upon
14graduating from high school; he underwent basic training at
15Recruit Training Command Great Lakes; he was killed while
16serving his country in Jalaabad, Afghanistan, in support of
17Operation Enduring Freedom; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Petty Officer Roberts was preceded in death by his
19grandfather, David Huggins; his uncle, Alphonso Ball; and his
20aunt, Kandi Williams; and

1    WHEREAS, Petty Officer Roberts is survived by his parents,
2John and Janice Roberts; his sister, Jaleesa Roberts; his
3nephew, Jeremiah Roberts; his grandmothers, Anna Mae Bell and
4Joan Huggins; his aunts, Virginia Henley, Helen (Timothy)
5Clark, and Sherri (Steve) Sullivan; his uncles, William
6(Joanne) Jenkins and David Huggins; a host of great aunts,
7cousins, and friends; his God sister, Sheena Adams; his God
8brother, Vincent Adams; and a special friend, Jamie Plecker;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Petty Officer Roberts, and we extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Petty Officer Roberts
16and his willingness to serve his country, which led to him
17making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Petty Officer Roberts as an
20expression of our deepest sympathy.
