SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of Amos Everette Nicholson of
4Aurora, who passed away on October 6, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Amos Nicholson was born on November 25, 1916, in
6Sandwich to Charles and Elsie Nicholson; he graduated from East
7Aurora High School in 1936, and began working with his father
8in the painting and decorating business; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Amos Nicholson enlisted in the Army Air Corps
10during World War II and was trained as an aircraft mechanic; he
11was stationed with the 343rd Squadron, 98th Bomb Group in North
12Africa and Italy; he worked as a B-24 Liberator Crew Chief,
13achieving the rank of Master Sergeant; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Amos Nicholson's artistic talents were well known
15to those in his unit; he painted the nose art on several of his
16squadron's bombers, including images of Snow White & the Seven
17Dwarfs and Prince Charming; he co-authored a book of his
18exploits entitled "Snow White Goes to War"; after a 2 year
19stint in Japan during the Korean Conflict, he returned to
20Aurora and continued to work in the painting/decorating
21business well into his 80's; and

1    WHEREAS, Amos Nicholson was preceded in death by his wife
2of 59 years, Rita (Schramer) Nicholson; his parents, Charles
3and Elsie; his sisters, Doris, Helen, and Margaret; and his
4brother, Burnette; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Amos Nicholson is survived by his sons, Lynn
6(Slawa) and Kent (Sue) and his grandson, Adam; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Amos Nicholson, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Amos Nicholson as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
