SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph S. Forzley of Lemont, who passed away on August 25, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was born to Salim and Fedwa Forzley in Lemont on July 10, 1927; he graduated from Lemont Township High School in 1945; he then served in the 5th Army Air Force in World War Two; after serving his country, he received his degree from UCLA; he married Bernice Elias at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in 1950; he was a lifelong resident of Lemont; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley worked in the insurance business for eight years; he then worked for Argonne National Laboratory as a purchasing manager for 30 years; he also served as mayor of Lemont from 1989 to 1992; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was a founding member of the Wilco Career Center and what is now known as The Blue & Gold Backers, a parent-driven volunteer organization that supports the Lemont High School Athletic Department through fundraising activities; he served as a board member of the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church and of the Franciscan Sisters, as president of the Lemont High School Board, on the Lemont Planning and Zoning Commission, and on the Lemont Village Board; he also coached Little League; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was a Scottish Rite Masonic member as well as a member of the Lockport Masonic Lodge #538 and Shriners; a proud veteran, he was an Honor Flight recipient and a member of the VFW and American Legion; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was a Lemont High School Hall of Fame recipient; he was also chosen as Lemont's Grand Marshal for the Keepataw Parade and as Citizen of the Year; in addition, a bridge at the Lemont quarries was named after him; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley enjoyed vacationing in Florida, all sports, and, most of all, spending time with his family; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Edward and Richard Forzley; his brother-in-law, Elias Abboud; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Asma and Essa Elias; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 70 years, Bernice (Elias) Forzley; his three children, Sharon (Ted) Mochel, Mark (Kathy) Forzley, and Dr. Samuel (Michele) Forzley; his seven grandchildren, Matthew (Christina), Michele, and Michael Forzley, Sarah (Graham) Pocic, and Nicholas, Anne, and Elizabeth Forzley; his three great-grandchildren, Grace and Jack Pocic and Hannah Forzley; his sister, Gloria Abboud; his sister-in-law, Joan Forzley; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joseph S. Forzley and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joseph Forzley as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
