SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is estimated that 1,762,450 new cases of cancer
3will be diagnosed in the United States in 2019; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The lifetime probability of a male or female
5developing cancer is 1 in 3; and
 
6    WHEREAS, A cancer survivor is defined as anyone who has
7been diagnosed with cancer, from the time of diagnosis through
8the balance of his or her life; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The National Cancer Institute reports that there
10are 15,500,000 cancer survivors in the United States, and the
11number of cancer survivors is expected to increase to
1220,300,000 by 2026; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Cancer treatments can have severe, prolonged, or
14permanent side effects, both physical and psychological; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Men, women, and children have been diagnosed with
16and battled cancer; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day is a purely
18volunteer event where volunteers from the spa, beauty, and
19related industries offer their support and provide

1complimentary services to all cancer survivors; and
 
2    WHEREAS, The goal of Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day
3is to ensure that all survivors feel empowered and included in
4their communities; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Since its inception in 2003, Cancer Survivor
6Beauty and Support Day has expanded to include thousands of
7salons in all 50 States, Canada, and the United Kingdom; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day is
9recognized by both state and local governments and numerous
10cancer support groups; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day is the only
12event of its kind, with no solicitation of funds before,
13during, or after the event; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Each year, the first Tuesday in June is recognized
15as National Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day; therefore,
16be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare June 4, 2019
19as Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day in the State of
20Illinois; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That we recognize the value of support for all
2men, women, and children cancer survivors, and the positive
3impact support has for both patients and families.
