HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Diabetes Awareness Day in the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Diabetes is a serious chronic disease that poses a major health problem; individuals with the disease are at an increased risk for heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, dental disease, and lower extremity amputations; the disease and its complications occur among all age, racial, and ethnic groups; and

WHEREAS, According to the Illinois Department of Health, diabetes affects 1.3 million people in the State of Illinois; this number does not take into consideration those with the disease who remain undetected and left untreated; and

WHEREAS, Bill HB5003, designating November 14 of each year as Diabetes Awareness Day, was signed into law in Illinois on July 17, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Diabetes Awareness Day was established to help raise awareness and educate people about this disease that affects so many in our community; and

WHEREAS, Diabetes ultimately affects us all, from sufferers to their families, caregivers, friends, communities, and medical providers; and

WHEREAS, Only through working together to bring increased education and awareness to our local communities can further diabetes awareness and action occur; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Diabetes Awareness in the State of Illinois on November 14, 2022; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we encourage local governments to also join the effort to increase awareness of the disease and recognize Diabetes Awareness Day in the State of Illinois.
