HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sergeant
4Major Florencio Cruz-Santiago, U.S. Army (Ret), who passed
5away on September 28, 2022; and
 
6    WHEREAS, SGM Cruz-Santiago served his country gallantly as
7an infantry soldier for 30 years, including two and a half
8combat tours in the Republic of Vietnam; he retired honorably
9with the Combat Infantry Badge, the Drill Instructor Badge,
10the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service
11Medals, two Commendations, and multiple overseas ribbons and
12awards; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In retirement, SGM Cruz-Santiago focused on his
14family, traveling to Puerto Rico, Panama, Aurora, Illinois,
15and Tampa, Florida; and
 
16    WHEREAS, SGM Cruz-Santiago was an ever-present husband,
17brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend; he was known
18for being willing to do anything for someone in need; he was
19also generous to various churches with his time and resources;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, SGM Cruz-Santiago's family has asked that he be

1buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., an
2honor reserved for those who have served the United States
3with honor; and
 
4    WHEREAS, SGM Cruz-Santiago is survived by his wife,
5Carmela; his sons, Reynaldo (Monica) Cruz, Reinier (Terri)
6Cruz, and René (Silvia) Cruz; and his grandchildren, Christian
7(Ashley), Carissa, and Joshua; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we mourn the passing of Sergeant Major Florencio
11Cruz-Santiago, U.S. Army (Ret) and extend our sincere
12condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of SGM Cruz as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
