2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Richard H. "Dick" Hansen of Rock
4Island, who passed away on January 14, 2022; and
5    WHEREAS, Richard Hansen was born on the Hansen family farm
6in Milan to Henry Oler and Beulah Marie (Cheek) Hansen on
7September 14, 1932; he graduated from Rock Island High School
8in 1951 and attended the University of Illinois before being
9drafted into the U.S. Army; he served during the Korean War
10from 1951 to 1953 and was assigned to Fort Carson, Colorado; he
11married Ruth Elaine Pitts on August 8, 1959; he received his
12bachelor's degree in Economics from Bradley University in
13Peoria in 1960; he earned a master's degree in Economics from
14Northern Illinois University; and
15    WHEREAS, Richard Hansen was chosen to serve as an
16investigator for the State Police in 1971; he primarily worked
17in the Department of Motor Vehicles, serving in this capacity
18for 20 years until his retirement in 1992; he remained
19actively involved in the family farm business his entire life;
20upon retirement, he continued to be involved in numerous
21interests and acted as a licensing liaison for many local
22automobile dealerships; he also taught courses in Economics at
23Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa; and

1    WHEREAS, Richard Hansen was a member of the Fraternal
2Order of Police for more than 40 years, the Eureka Masonic
3Temple in Milan for over 50 years, and the Veterans of Foreign
4Wars organization for nearly 70 years; and
5    WHEREAS, Richard Hansen was preceded in death by his
6parents and his infant sister, Beverly Louise; and
7    WHEREAS, Richard Hansen is survived by his wife of 62
8years, Ruth Elaine; his daughter, Sheri (Tim) Downing; his
9grandchildren, Heather (Josh) Hootman and Michael Downing; his
10siblings, John "Jack" Hansen and Lois (Al) Kucala; his
11sister-in-law, Judy (John) Hansen; his nieces, Suzanne (Greg)
12Anderson and Kelly (Ray) Patchett; and his nephews, Chris
13(Brenda) Hansen and Doug (Shara) Hansen, Morrison; therefore,
14be it
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Richard H. "Dick" Hansen and extend our sincere condolences to
18his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Richard Hansen as an expression of
