SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to recognize James William "Jim" Dodge for his service to the General Assembly and the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, James Dodge received his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Illinois and earned his Juris Doctor from the Southern Illinois University School of Law; and

WHEREAS, In October 2011, James Dodge was appointed executive director of the Legislative Reference Bureau, a nonpartisan agency that is responsible for the drafting and preparation of legislation for the Illinois General Assembly, including bills, amendments, resolutions, and conference committee reports; and

WHEREAS, While serving as the executive director, James Dodge led the bureau's staff of attorneys, drafters, and typists and oversaw the production of thousands of pieces of legislation each year; and

WHEREAS, James Dodge is a former prosecutor and a former assistant attorney general of Illinois, and he previously served as deputy chief counsel to former President of the Illinois Senate John Cullerton from 2003 to 2011, where he helped write the rules for the impeachment trial of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and was part of a multi-year project to rewrite and modernize the Illinois Criminal Code and Unified Code of Corrections; and

WHEREAS, James Dodge has served as an adjunct professor of law with Concord Law School since 2000, where he is heavily involved in curriculum revision and content creation for courses, and previously taught as an instructor at Lake Land College and Robert Morris University; and

WHEREAS, James Dodge is a commissioner of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (the Uniform Laws Commission), serving on drafting and study committees for proposed uniform laws, including the Uniform Fiduciary Income and Principal Act (UFIPA), and his research has been published in a number of law journals and professional publications; and

WHEREAS, James Dodge is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Bar Foundation, and the Academy of Legal Studies in Business; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize James William "Jim" Dodge for his service to the General Assembly and the State of Illinois, and we wish him well in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jim Dodge as an expression of our esteem and respect.
