SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Laurel Marie "Laurie" (FitzGerald) Zirkle of Des Plaines, who passed away on February 27, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Laurie Zirkle was born to Earl and Eileen in Evanston on June 9, 1953; she attended St. Gertrude for primary school, Immaculata High School, and Sacred Heart High School in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Laurie Zirkle worked for the Chicago Fire Prevention Bureau and then for Programmers Investment Corporation; and

WHEREAS, Laurie Zirkle volunteered at Seasons Hospice and the Catholic Charities' Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide (LOSS) program; and

WHEREAS, Laurie Zirkle loved animals, had a deep passion for music, particularly Motown, and enjoyed watching movies with her husband, Randy; and

WHEREAS, Laurie Zirkle was an engaging conversationalist and a truly thoughtful and loving wife, mother, and friend; she will be remembered for her compassion, her laugh, her quick wit, and her warm smile; and

WHEREAS, Laurie Zirkle was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Mary; and

WHEREAS, Laurie Zirkle is survived by her husband, Randy Zirkle; her sons, Scott (Heather) and Matt (Tamila); her grandchildren, Avery and Mason; and seven siblings; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Laurel Marie "Laurie" (FitzGerald) Zirkle and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Laurie Zirkle as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
