SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Limitation on Public Service Act. Provides that an elected official may not hold more than one public office simultaneously. Specifies that the limitation applies regardless of whether the elected official receives compensation for a public office. Defines "elected official" and "public office". Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5Limitation on Public Service Act.
 
6    Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
7    "Elected official" means any person who holds an office
8that is subject to election in accordance with the Election
9Code.
10    "Public office" means an office to which a person is
11elected or appointed to discharge a public duty for the State
12or any of its political subdivisions and an office which is
13established and the qualifications and duties are prescribed by
14statute.
 
15    Section 10. Limitation. An elected official may not hold
16more than one public office simultaneously. This limitation
17applies regardless of whether the elected official receives
18compensation for a public office.
 
19    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
20becoming law.
