SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

New Act

Creates the Limitation on Public Service Act. Provides that an elected official may not hold more than one public office simultaneously. Specifies that the limitation applies regardless of whether the elected official receives compensation for a public office. Defines "elected official" and "public office". Effective immediately.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning government.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Limitation on Public Service Act.

Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:

"Elected official" means any person who holds an office that is subject to election in accordance with the Election Code.

"Public office" means an office to which a person is elected or appointed to discharge a public duty for the State or any of its political subdivisions and an office which is established and the qualifications and duties are prescribed by statute.

Section 10. Limitation. An elected official may not hold more than one public office simultaneously. This limitation applies regardless of whether the elected official receives compensation for a public office.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
