SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
10 ILCS 5/1-4  from Ch. 46, par. 1-4

    Amends the Election Code. Provides that, in 2013 only, the petition filing period for established political parties shall be extended to December 4, 2013. Requires the State Board of Elections to notify the public of the extended filing period. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section
51-4 as follows:
 
6    (10 ILCS 5/1-4)  (from Ch. 46, par. 1-4)
7    Sec. 1-4. (a) In any case in which this Act prescribes a
8period of time within which petitions for nomination must be
9filed, the office in which petitions must be filed shall remain
10open for the receipt of such petitions until 5:00 P.M. on the
11last day of the filing period.
12    (b) For the 2013 consolidated election period, an election
13authority or local election official shall accept until 104
14days before the election at which candidates are to be on the
15ballot any petitions for nomination or certificate of
16nomination required by this Code to be filed no earlier than
17113 and no later than 106 days before the consolidated
18election. Notwithstanding any other provision of this Code, for
19purposes of this subsection (b) only, signatures and circulator
20statements on petitions for nomination filed with an election
21authority or local election official on the final day for
22filing petitions for nomination shall not be deemed invalid for
23the sole reason that the petitions were circulated between 90

1and 92 days before the last day for filing petitions.
2    (c) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Code, in
32013 only, the petition filing period for established political
4parties shall be extended to December 4, 2013. The State Board
5of Elections shall notify the public of the extended filing
6period.

8    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
9becoming law.
