1    AN ACT concerning criminal law.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Criminal Code of 2012 is amended by changing
5Section 17-8.3 as follows:
 
6    (720 ILCS 5/17-8.3)   (was 720 ILCS 5/17-22)
7    Sec. 17-8.3. False information on an application for
8employment with certain public or private agencies; use of
9false academic degree.
10    (a) It is unlawful for an applicant for employment with a
11public or private agency that provides State funded services to
12persons with mental illness or developmental disabilities to
13knowingly furnish false information regarding professional
14certification, licensing, criminal background, or employment
15history for the 5 years immediately preceding the date of
16application on an application for employment with the agency if
17the position of employment requires or provides opportunity for
18contact with persons with mental illness or developmental
19disabilities.
20    (b) It is unlawful for a person to knowingly use a false
21academic degree for the purpose of obtaining employment,
22obtaining or admission to an institution of higher learning,
23obtaining or admission to an advanced degree program at an

1institution of higher learning, or for the purpose of obtaining
2a promotion or higher compensation in employment.
3    (c) Sentence. A violation of this Section is a Class A
4misdemeanor.
