HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Many thousands of Illinoisans have had their health insurance plans cancelled and many more thousands will soon face cancellation in 2014 as a direct result of the Affordable Care Act; and

WHEREAS, Many Illinois families that were forced into the Affordable Care Act health insurance exchange are now facing higher deductibles, higher premiums, and limited provider networks, or are forgoing insurance coverage altogether; and

WHEREAS, Some Illinois lawmakers are seeking to adopt a State-based health insurance exchange under the Affordable Care Act that could cost Illinoisans more than $100 million; and

WHEREAS, Illinois lawmakers are receiving generous taxpayer-funded health premium subsidies toward their Illinois State Employees' Group Insurance Program benefits; and

WHEREAS, Illinois lawmakers participating in the program may pay anywhere from $119 to $211 per month in Fiscal Year 2014 for their own coverage, which is a fraction of the true insurance coverage cost to taxpayers; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge any lawmaker who supports any further expansion of the Affordable Care Act in the State of Illinois to immediately forfeit his or her taxpayer-funded premium subsidy and voluntarily enroll in the Affordable Care Act health insurance exchange; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we urge Illinois' elected senators and representatives to live by the same set of rules that they impose upon those they claim to represent.
