HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Chicago Area Project and the Illinois Council
3of Area Projects are organizing a "Youth Democracy Day" to be
4held on May 8, 2014 in Springfield; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Youth Democracy Day 2014, entitled "Violence
6Prevention - Youth Leadership & Young People as Resources" will
7bring together over 300 youths and their supporters from across
8the State to engage in a large-scale youth forum with
9legislators and senior administration figures; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Through Youth Democracy Day 2014, the Chicago Area
11Project and the Illinois Council of Area Projects hope to
12achieve an increased sense of purpose and power for young
13people to articulate their concerns, increased knowledge of
14State government procedures, people, and processes, the
15creation of a dialogue between local governments and young
16people representing community services, improved people skills
17in civic engagement and the democratic process amongst young
18people, and the creation of community/school youth-driven
19violence-prevention projects to possibly obtain service
20learning and/or community service credits; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Youth Democracy Day 2014 will begin with Civic
22Educational and Engagement Training at the State House Inn in

1Springfield and will include presentations by youths and by
2officials at the State Capitol; there will be tours and
3pre-arranged group meetings and photo opportunities with
4individual legislators, administrators, and other officials;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, All participating youths will receive
7Certificates of Attendance at Youth Democracy Day 2014;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we enthusiastically recognize the Youth Democracy Day to be
12held in Springfield on May 8, 2014 and thank The Chicago Area
13Project and the Illinois Council of Area Projects for all they
14do to encourage the youth of the State to become more involved
15in their community and government; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to The Chicago Area Project and the Illinois Council
18of Area Projects as an expression of our esteem and respect.
