HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to honor Sugar Grove Fire Chief Martin Kunkel for his many years of dedicated service to both his department and community as he prepares for retirement; and

WHEREAS, Chief Kunkel has served for over 35 years in the fire protection service; and

WHEREAS, Martin Kunkel began his career in the fire protective service on April 19, 1976, when he was hired on as a firefighter with the Aurora Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, Martin Kunkel was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant of the Aurora Fire Department in 1986; and

WHEREAS, Martin Kunkel was promoted to the rank of Captain in January of 1990; and

WHEREAS, Martin Kunkel was appointed to the position of Fire Marshal for the Aurora Fire Department on March 9, 1996; and

WHEREAS, Martin Kunkel was appointed to the position of Assistant Fire Chief for the Aurora Fire Department on December 4, 1999; and

WHEREAS, Martin Kunkel retired from the Aurora Fire Department on March 7, 2003; and

WHEREAS, Martin Kunkel was appointed as the first full-time Fire Chief of the Sugar Grove Fire Protection District on February 21, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Martin Kunkel retired from Sugar Grove Fire Protection on April 30, 2014; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Sugar Grove Fire Chief Martin Kunkel on his service and dedication on behalf of the residents of both Aurora and Sugar Grove, congratulate him on the occasion of his retirement, and wish him many happy years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Martin Kunkel as an expression of our esteem and respect.
