HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Rey B. Gonzalez on
4the occasion of his retirement from the Commonwealth Edison
5Company and his new position as the President and Chief
6Executive Officer of El Valor; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez served for 16 years with the
8Commonwealth Edison Company as the Public Affairs Director,
9where he gained extensive experience in human relations,
10community, government, and media relations; while serving in
11this role at ComEd, he spearheaded public relations efforts and
12corporate contributions programs and was a founding member of
13ComEd's Diversity Initiative; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez then joined the McDonald's
15Corporation in 1998, where he served as Vice-President of
16Diversity; in that role, his primary responsibilities included
17the management and development of national external diversity
18partnerships, including those relating to philanthropy and
19employment; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez then joined the Exelon Corporation in
212002 as the Vice-President of Corporate Diversity, where he was
22responsible for strengthening corporate diversity programs,

1maximizing supplier/vendor relationships, diversity recruiting
2and outreach, and strengthening partnerships with internal and
3external organizations; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez was appointed as Vice-President of
5Legislative and Community Affairs at ComEd in August 2006; in
6that role, he was also involved with Exelon's national external
7diversity initiatives, including efforts to assist in building
8and strengthening relationships with the diversity suppliers
9and community organizations; and
 
10    WHEREAS, On September 18, 2013, Rey Gonzalez announced his
11retirement from ComEd after many years of valuable service and
12important contributions; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez has a long history of volunteer
14community involvement as the chair of both the United States
15Hispanic Leadership Institute and El Valor as well as a board
16member of the Illinois Children's Healthcare Foundation and the
17Puerto Rican Arts Alliance; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez has received numerous honors and
19awards for his community involvement, including the Jefferson
20Award for volunteerism from NBC Channel 5 in Chicago, the
21Caesar Chavez Community Service Award from the United States
22Hispanic Leadership Institute, the Leadership Award from the

1Hispanic Association on Career Enhancement, and the Pepsi-Cola
2Hispanic Community Leadership Award; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Governor's State University has instituted the
4Rey B. Gonzalez Scholarship Fund in his honor, and El Valor has
5named a multi-million dollar facility the Rey B. Gonzalez
6Children and Family Center in recognition of his long-term
7commitment to the organization; and
 
8    WHEREAS, El Valor's mission is to support and challenge
9urban families to achieve excellence and participate fully in
10community life through programs that exist to enrich and
11empower people with disabilities, the disenfranchised and the
12underserved; it is one of the country's largest Latino-serving
13community-based organizations; and
 
14    WHEREAS, After serving as the chair of El Valor's Board of
15Directors for 30 years, the Board of Directors has recently
16named Rey Gonzalez as the President and Chief Executive Officer
17of El Valor; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez shares this honor with his wife,
19Hilda, and their 4 children; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we congratulate Rey Gonzalez on his retirement from
2Commonwealth Edison Company and wish him all the best in his
3new position as the President and Chief Executive Officer of El
4Valor; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to Rey Gonzalez as an expression of our esteem and
7respect.
