HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to mourn the death of Terry M.
4Marketti of Gardner, who passed away on December 14, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Terry Marketti was born in Joliet in 1956; his
6parents were Charles C. and Matilda "Tillie" Marketti; he grew
7up with his 2 brothers, Charles and Rick; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Terry Marketti dedicated his life to serving the
9communities of Grundy County, winning his first elected
10position at the age of 18 on the South Wilmington Village
11Board, where he served for 22 years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Terry Marketti served with the Grundy County
13Sheriff's Department for 35 years; he rose from Chief Deputy to
14Sheriff by appointment in March of 2004 following the sudden
15death of Sheriff Jim Olson; he would go on to win re-election
16as Sheriff 3 more times, running once unopposed; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Terry Marketti also served on numerous boards for
18charities and other local organizations throughout his life,
19including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will and Grundy Counties,
20Grundy Area P.A.D.S. (Public Action to Deliver Shelter), the
21Community Foundation of Grundy County, the Grundy Economic

1Development Council, Breaking Away, the Gardner Village Board,
2the No Tolerance Task Force, the Grundy County Emergency
3Telephone Systems Board, Operation St. Nick, We Care of Grundy
4County, and many others; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Terry Marketti was also a member of the St.
6Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington, where those who
7knew him best described him as a generous soul; he was known to
8donate to many local charities, non-profit organizations, and
9individuals; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Terry Marketti was dearly loved by his family and
11friends, was highly respected in law enforcement, and had a
12generosity that was legendary throughout the community;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16we mourn the passing of Terry M. Marketti and extend our
17sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
18and loved him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Terry Marketti as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
